Charitable organisations are governed in a unique way. They are lead by groups of volunteer members who act collectively to make decisions in the interests of the organisation. This group is called the board. Most board work is done during meetings which are led by the chair. At meetings, members review information and debate organisational matters. Staff members and others may advise the board. To reach a decision, the board votes and the majority carries the decision.
Individual members and small groups of members only have authority as part of the larger board group. Governance decisions are only legitimate when they are approved by a majority vote of the entire board.
Board decisions are official and must be respected by the rest of the organisation. Boards need to communicate decisions and take measures to implement them. They often work closely with senior staff to do this, especially the chief executive.
Board officers, such as the Chair or Treasurer and board sub-groups, such as subcommittees, are often given limited authority by the Board to act on its behalf in certain areas.
Stadium’s sub-committees are;
Services Committee – which meets regularly to review operational aspects of the business such as departmental structure changes or service improvement plans.
Asset Management Committee – which meets to review and approve new developments and re-developments.
Finance Committee - which meets to discuss the management accounts and financial papers in detail
