Equal Opportunities Policy

Stadium Housing Association is committed to positively eliminating any action, procedure or policy, which it considers to unfairly discriminate against any disadvantaged groups.

We will achieve this by regular reviews and monitoring of policies and procedures, and implementation of appropriate training programmes.

We are also aware of the organisation’s role within the communities in which we operate and our particular responsibility for our tenants and residents.

Our policies, procedures, and practices will be drafted to reflect the diverse profile of that group, and the feedback they give to us, and will be sensitive to ethnicity, gender, disability, age, and sexual orientation issues that are identified.

Services to residents
We are committed to ensuring that all our services are delivered in a non-discriminatory way. We recognise the need to ensure that these services are responsive to the needs and aspirations of the diverse communities in which we operate. We will obtain regular feedback from residents on service delivery and the scope of services, and work with partner local authorities to research and identify needs.

Allocations and lettings
We aim to ensure that our policies, procedures and practices give equal access to all groups of applicants, are open and accountable, and avoid irrelevant restrictions on access. We will monitor access on a regular basis, publish the results, and investigate any apparent anomalies, taking corrective action as necessary. Our monitoring will cover both actual numbers and a range of quality indicators.

Contractors
We recognise the barriers facing contractors and consultants who are representative of disadvantaged groups. We will continue to adopt initiatives to encourage them to be represented on approved lists, and will encourage main contractors to work with them, sub contract work to them, and use joint ventures or consortia. We will continue to work with Construction Line and LEOF in promoting this.

Employment

We recognise that employing staff reflecting the range of experiences of the local community, and society in general, will make us more effective and enhance the delivery of services.

We will ensure that staff recruitment is conducted within that principle.

We will develop and maintain opportunities for training and career development for staff from disadvantaged groups, and ensure that all staff are trained on the range of equality issues.

There will be continuous monitoring of employment activity.

Governance

We believe that the representation and involvement on our governing body of individuals from a range of groups enhances the accountability of our organisation and we will strive to ensure that the governing body meets this aim.
