Overcrowding and larger homes

Stadium housing have introduced a larger homes project this year which we are hoping will help tackle some of the overcrowding issues that our residents face.  Within our current housing stock there are a limited number of properties with 3 or more bedrooms so trying to accommodate growing families is difficult.  However, with the emphasis on homes for life we are under increasing pressure to improve our ability to accommodate larger families.

This is the first year that Property Services have a budget set aside purely for extending existing homes to increase the number of bedrooms and the target is to complete at least five a year.  Recommendations come through the housing team who would look into the residents situation, transfer status, level of overcrowding and issues such as rent arrears.  If they feel that the family would benefit from the scheme then they would submit their recommendation to the stock reinvestment team who would commission a feasibility study.  If the works are not possible then the resident and the housing team would be informed.

If the works are possible (dependent upon the level of applications) the works would either be done in that financial year or may go on a waiting list for the following year, either way you would be informed of the outcome.
